Liverpool City Council carried out a joint enforcement operation this week targeting unauthorised vehicles parked on city centre taxi ranks.
Licensing officers teamed up with Parking Services to patrol key areas where private vehicles were blocking designated taxi bays. The operation resulted in 34 penalty charge notices being issued in one evening.
A council licensing spokesperson said the checks were aimed at ensuring the ranks remain available for taxis to operate properly and provide a reliable service to the public.
The council reminded drivers that taxi ranks are reserved for licensed hackney carriages only. Private cars found parked on these bays are subject to immediate enforcement action.
Further joint operations are expected as part of ongoing efforts to keep taxi ranks clear for their intended use.
A Liverpool City Council Licensing spokesperson said on social media: “Liverpool Licensing Officers with colleagues from Parking Services this evening conducted an enforcement operation in relation to illegally parked vehicles on Taxi Ranks in the City Centre.
“A total of 34 tickets were issued over the evening. Taxi Ranks are for Taxis!”
