Plymouth City Council’s Taxi Licensing Committee revoked and suspended a number of driver licences during hearings held in February, following reviews of both private hire and hackney carriage cases.

At the 5 February meeting, councillors agreed to suspend one private hire driver’s licence until the individual completed a driving standards test. The committee ruled that failure to complete the test would result in the driver being brought back before members. No action was taken against the associated private hire vehicle licence in that case.

During the same session, the committee revoked a separate private hire driver’s licence after considering the driver’s representations, the officer report and relevant policies. In another case that day, members revoked both a hackney carriage driver’s licence and the corresponding hackney carriage vehicle licence following a review.

Further action was taken against an additional private hire driver, with the committee revoking the private hire vehicle driver’s licence while taking no action against the vehicle licence. In a separate review, members required a driver to retake the ambassador course but allowed the private hire vehicle licence to remain in place.

At the 19 February meeting, the committee revoked a hackney carriage driver’s licence following consideration of the report and relevant policies. No action was taken against the associated vehicle licence in that instance.

Members also imposed a seven-day suspension on a private hire vehicle driver’s licence at the same hearing. In a separate case, an application for the grant of a private hire vehicle driver licence was approved, subject to the applicant resitting the ambassador course within six months. One further private hire driver review was deferred to allow the driver to attend.
