Officers investigating a collision which resulted in a pedestrian being taken to hospital are appealing for the driver to come forward.

The incident happened on Collingwood Gardens, North Shields at around 6.50pm on Tuesday, 5 October.

A 76-year-old man was walking near the junction with Kettlewood Terrace when he was knocked over by a taxi.

The driver of the taxi stopped at the scene and looked after the pensioner, before driving him to North Tyneside General Hospital on Rake Lane and escorting him into the Accident and Emergency reception.

The victim’s injuries are now described as serious. The man is unaware of the identity of the taxi driver who took him to hospital, so officers are now appealing for him to come forward.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police, said: "We would like to speak to him as part of our enquiries into the collision.
