Police arrest man after gunshot blasts taxi

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for information after a gunshot was fired at a taxi in Sheffield. The force said: "We are appealing for information after a firearms discharge in the Grimesthorpe area of Sheffield last night (29 October).

"It is reported that at around 9.35pm a white taxi was parked on Margate Drive, when a blue Audi pulled up alongside the vehicle, and fired at the taxi.

"The Audi then left the scene.

"The passengers of the taxi, believed to be three men in their 20s, also left the scene."

Police confirmed the driver of the taxi was uninjured, but damage was caused to the vehicle.

A short time later, officers detained and arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of firearms offences. He remains in custody at this time.

Detective Inspector Lee Nesbeth said: “Enquiries are ongoing and I would like to identify and speak to the passengers of the taxi who left the scene. There is a possibility that one, or more, of the occupants of the vehicle are injured and may need medical treatment.

"I’d urge anyone with information to please contact us on 101 quoting incident number 892 of 29 October. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
