Police charge man with murder after ‘kind and hard working’ PHV driver dies on shift

Police have charged a man with murder after a private hire driver died following an assault in Wolverhampton on Sunday.

Anakh Singh, 59, was found with serious injuries in Nine Elms Lane. A post mortem was carried out but the results were inconclusive.

Mr Singh was working for Wolverhampton-based ABC Cars, who have since set up a JustGiving page raising over £5,000 for his family.

Tomasz Margol, aged 35, was charged with murder. He appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court yesterday (1 November) and has been remanded to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court tomorrow.

Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, from West Midlands Police Homicide Team, said: “We’ve kept Mr Singh’s family updated with this development as officers continue to support them during this tragic time.

“We continue to appeal to anyone with information who has not yet been in touch to contact us.”

A spokesperson from ABC Cars Wolverhampton, said: “Sunday morning one of our drivers was attacked and killed on shift. A senseless loss which has devastated his close family and friends, our thoughts are with them all.

“We will remember you Sir, A lovely kind hard working man.”
