Police intelligence sees private hire passenger arrested after finding three carrier bags of cannabis



Police intelligence lead to a private hire vehicle (PHV) passenger being arrested after finding three large carrier bags of cannabis.


Avon and Somerset Police, which include ‘Taxi Cop’ PC Patrick Quinton, conducted a targeted operation to tackle drug trafficking via taxis.

Acting on intelligence, officers stopped and searched hackney carriage taxis and private hire vehicles (PHVs) in the south of the county. The operation yielded significant results.


During the checks, officers found a passenger in a PHV carrying three large carrier bags filled with cannabis and a substantial amount of cash. The individual was promptly arrested on suspicion of drug supply offences.

The investigation will also focus on the driver and operator of the PHV involved. This action forms part of a broader strategy to ensure that public transport services are not exploited for criminal activities.
