Police investigating unlicensed TfL roundel marked Private Hire vehicle with tampered number plate

Transport for London have confirmed that police are investigating a car which has been highlighted by a member of the public for having what appears to be a tampered vehicle number plate.

The car, a Toyota Prius, was spotted by another road user who was travelling behind. The last letter of the number plate appears to have some sort of tape over it, creating the debate; 'Is it an E or an F?'

The rear window also bares the signage of a London licensed private hire vehicle.

All Transport for London licensed private hire vehicles have a round sticker licence, known as a roundal, which is to be placed in the top left corner.

Checking the licensing of the vehicle on Transport for London's taxi and private hire licensing database, TaxiPoint noticed that neither the number plate registered as an 'E' or an 'F' was recorded on the system.

Contacting Transport for London for comment, a spokesperson confirmed that the investigation of the vehicle had been passed on to the police, who are now handling the incident.

TaxiPoint will now stay in contact with Transport for London for any further updates on the investigation of this possible bogus private hire vehicle.
