Thames Valley Police (TVP) officers in Ascot have taken action against several drivers who chose to stop on zigzag markings outside Costa Coffee, with one vehicle in the photo shared by officers appearing to be a private hire minicab.
Officers said the markings are there to protect people crossing the road. Stopping on them is illegal and places pedestrians at risk. Despite this, a number of drivers still pulled up on the restricted area and were issued tickets on the spot.
Police said they will continue to target drivers who ignore the rules, adding that they expect full compliance at crossings. They asked motorists to take more care when stopping in busy parts of Ascot.
A TVP spokesperson said on Monday 17 November: “Today, we issued tickets to drivers who parked on the zigzag lines outside Costa Coffee. These markings are there for a reason - to keep pedestrians safe and maintain clear visibility near crossings.
“Parking on zigzags is illegal and dangerous, and we will continue to take action against those who ignore these rules. Please help us keep Ascot safe by parking responsibly.”
