Cleveland Police are warning members of the public to be vigilant following a suspicious incident on Rievaulx Avenue in Billingham on Monday 8 February at 10am.

It was reported that a 9 year old girl was playing in the street when a black coloured cab pulled up and the driver demanded that the girl get into the car. He is then said to have asked the girl questions, including where she went to school, and then stated that he “would come back to get her”.

The driver of the vehicle has been described as being an Asian male and is described as having a “fat face and glasses”.

The male left the scene after another child intervened and the incident was reported to police.

Officers have since increased patrols in the area in a bid to trace the person responsible and offer reassurance to the local community. This high visibility presence will continue over the coming days and anyone who may have concerns or questions is encouraged to speak to an officer.

Anyone who was in the street at the time of the incident or anyone who may have private CCTV or dashcam footage which may be able to help officers identify the driver is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting 020466.
