Merseyside Police have issued CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to after a cab driver was assaulted and had his vehicle damaged in Wirral.

The driver had been reversing his silver Ford Mondeo out at the junction of Ilford Avenue/Poulton Road in Wallasey at around 6.25pm on Sunday 9 May when he was verbally abused by a man.

The man then assaulted the driver by punching him to the face and hitting him over the head before causing damage to the car.

The driver, a 52 year-old man, required hospital treatment for cuts to his head and cuts and bruising to his arm and hand.

Damage was also caused to the roof of the car.

Police officers have issued CCTV images of a man who they believe could assist with the investigation.

Detective Inspector Tom Clarke said: “This was a nasty and unprovoked attack on an innocent man minding his own business and we are determined to catch the person responsible.

“I would ask the man in the images, or anyone who recognises him to contact us as we believe he may have information which is vital to our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 21000299289.
