Police seek man who choked private hire driver after female passenger vomits in vehicle
Updated: Aug 17, 2021
Merseyside Police have issued images of a man they want to trace following an assault in a cab on Grove Street, Liverpool last month.
At around 12.15am on Friday 16 July officers received a report that a cab driver was assaulted by a male passenger after stopping on Grove Street, near Falkner Square.
It was reported that the suspect choked the driver following a dispute over the cleaning fee after a female passenger vomited in the vehicle.
Following the incident, the male and female passenger made off from the scene on foot.
The driver suffered injuries to his neck and face and was left extremely shaken by the incident.
An investigation is underway and detectives have issued images of a man they believe could assist with their enquiries.
Detective Inspector Phil Ryan said: “To assault someone in this manner simply for doing their job is disgraceful and we are doing all we can to find the person responsible and bring them to justice.
“Enquiries have been carried out to identify the male in the images as we believed he has information which is vital to our investigation.
“I would appeal to anyone who recognises the man or knows of his whereabouts to contact us.”
