Derbyshire Police are urging a taxi driver to come forward after stopping near the scene of an attempted robbery close to Derby city centre.
The incident took place on Normanton Road between midnight and 12.10am on Thursday 6 November. A man in his twenties was confronted by two males, one on an e-bike and another on foot, who demanded his phone and wallet. A struggle broke out near the junction with Melbourne Street before one suspect rode off towards the city centre.
The victim then chased the second male and the pair moved towards Douglas Bar. As this happened, a taxi passed and the driver is understood to have spoken to the men.
Officers say the driver may have important information about what was taking place at that moment. They are appealing directly for the driver to contact them as soon as possible.
The two suspects were dressed in black, had face coverings and were around 5ft 8ins tall.
Police are continuing their enquiries and also want to hear from anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area who has not yet spoken to officers. Information should be passed to Derbyshire Police quoting incident number 25*650364.
