Police in Derbyshire seized two tuk tuk “death traps” following reports from the public of them working as unlicensed taxis in the area.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit responded to calls from the public in relation to the vehicles working as taxis in Matlock. Officers seized the two vehicles commonly found on the Asian continent, by loading them on to a pick up truck.

According to the police, both tuk tuks were operating as unlicensed taxis with the incorrect insurance.

Officers urged the public not to use the “uninsured death traps”.

A spokesperson from Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said via social media: “Matlock. Not something you see everyday. A pair of tuk tuks seized by Matlock officers. Operating as unlicenced taxis on a social, domestic and pleasure insurance policy. Uninsured death traps, please don't use them.”
