Police swoop in on cocaine using private hire driver after concerns raised regarding his driving

A private hire driver has been arrested by Merseyside Police after testing positive for cocaine.

The man was seen driving erratically by a CCTV operator, who promptly contacted the police to inform them.

A number of police vehicles were deployed, and pre-emptive tactics were used to nullify any danger. The driver underwent a roadside drugs-wipe test, which came back positive for the Class-A drug.

The private hire driver was arrested and now awaits the results of the blood toxicology report.

Merseyside Roads Policing Unit took to social media to highlight the incident, saying: "We were directed to this private hire taxi after a CCTV operator raised concerns about his manner of driving.

"Pre-emptive tactics were used and the driver tested positive for cocaine on the drugs-wipe. He was arrested and now awaits the result of the blood toxicology."

It is not clear what authority the private hire driver is licensed with, but it's highly likely that he will be called before the committee for them to decide whether he is fit-and-proper to hold a licence.
