Police urge Glasgow taxi drivers to remove cash and valuables after spike in thefts


Police in Scotland have issued a warning to taxi drivers to remove cash and other valuables from their cabs after a spike in thefts in the Glasgow area.


According to police sources there has been reports of thefts from licensed taxis in the south west region of Glasgow during the evenings.

Glasgow South West Police said via social media: “We have received reports of thefts from taxis during the evenings.


“If you own or drive a taxi please ensure that you remove all valuables from your vehicle (sat nav/cash/mobile phone) when it is not in use and check the doors are locked.”

In advice shared by the force, officers suggest cabbies:

  • Lock your vehicle and keep the keys secure within your home away from main entrances and not on open display

  • Remove valuable items from your car when unattended

  • Try to park your car in a well lit area

  • If you have security devices for your home and car use them at all times

  • Always use and lock gates and garages

  • Position movement sensor lighting to activate should anyone approach your vehicle or home.
