Police warn public after reports of rogue fake taxi operating in Wrexham area

North Wales Police have issued a warning after receiving a report of an unauthorised fake taxi offering lifts in the city.

Concerns were raised that the driver may be operating without a valid licence. Officers say this raises significant safety issues, as unlicensed drivers may not have completed background checks or met required safety standards.

District Inspector Rhodri Ifans urged the public to avoid getting into vehicles with unknown drivers.

He said: “When getting a taxi, we would advise always booking through a licensed reputable company or arranging a lift with a friend or family – never accept a lift from a stranger in any circumstances.

"If you get into a car with a stranger, you could be putting your safety at risk as you may not know who is driving or if the vehicle is even safe.

“Licensed taxis must display taxi plates both in and outside of the vehicle and it's always worthwhile taking note, where possible, of the taxi license number or the driver's details.”
