Private hire driver facing points and a fine after getting caught speeding with passengers in car

A private hire driver has been clocked speeding at 58mph with passengers on-board in Halifax by West Yorkshire Policing Unit, and is now facing the possibility of points added to his licence.

In addition, the PHV driver will also be issued with a fine for the offence.

A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Police, said: "Speed checks in Halifax, this private hire vehicle caught exceeding the 40mph speed limit whilst carrying passengers. Reported for the offence. #Fatal4 #team5 #operationalsupport."

The minimum penalty for speeding is a £100 fine and 3 penalty points added to your licence. You could be disqualified from driving if you build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of 3 years.

The unnamed private hire driver will also have to inform his licensing authority who may, if they feel necessary, call him before the committee to discuss the offence and decide whether he is still a fit-and-proper-person to hold a private hire driver licence.
