A St Helens private hire driver has had his licence revoked with immediate effect following a report handed to them by Police Scotland.

Members of the council's licensing committee were called to a meeting to review the unnamed man's licence, where they were informed of the reasons to be concerned.

Police Scotland revealed to the members that the man's licensed vehicle had been seen at a known drug dealer’s location, following which he was arrested for allegedly being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs.

A large sum of cash was found in the licensed vehicle and retained by the Police. The man had been called to attend his licensing hearing to present a defense, but failed to show.

Despite several attempts by the licensing committee to contact him, the man failed to provide information requested by the council to support his explanations given during police interview. As no reason was provided for his non-attendance, the committee decided to hear the matter in his absence based on the information contained in the report.

In minutes from the meeting it concludes that on the balance of probabilities, the licence of the private hire driver be revoked with immediate effect in the interests of public safety.
