A private hire driver pulled over by police ‘couldn’t see what the issue was’ after officers pointed out a tyre so heavily worn the cords were showing.

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire (BCH) Road Policing Unit shared details of the incident on social media.

A black Vauxhall minicab was stopped by police on 27 May. Upon inspection officers found the inside of one of the front tyres was worn heavily.

In the image shared it showed the rubber grips worn so badly that white cords were on display.

The minicab driver was reported for the illegal tyre.

A BCH Road Policing Unit spokesperson said: “After having stopped this private hire taxi, it became apparent that the front tyre was below the legal tread depth. So far below that the canvas was showing. Driver couldn't see what the issue was.

“Driver reported and prohibition issued.”
