Wolverhampton licensing enforcement officers joined the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and West Midlands Police for a targeted compliance operation on prom night aimed at ensuring vehicles carrying young passengers were properly licensed and insured.
The operation focused on vehicles hired to transport students attending school prom events across the city. Officials said the checks were designed to verify that vehicles operating for hire and reward met licensing and insurance requirements.
In a social media update, WV Public Protection said: “Taxi Compliance working with DVSA and West Midlands Police on Prom night Wolverhampton. Ensuring vehicle hired to take your children are licensed and insured.”
Images released from the operation showed a white Rolls-Royce being recovered on a transporter with a police seizure notice displayed in the window. Authorities have not released further details about the specific circumstances behind the seizure.
Prom season often sees increased demand for limousines and chauffeur-driven cars as families arrange transport for school leavers. Licensing teams across the UK regularly conduct enforcement exercises during major events to identify unlawful operators and ensure passenger safety standards are met.
The latest Wolverhampton operation highlights the continued focus on compliance within the private hire and chauffeur sector, particularly where potentially uninsured vehicles are being used to transport children and young people to high-profile events.
