Radio Carlisle Taxis says it will not accommodate discriminatory driver requests

Radio Carlisle Taxis has said it will not honour requests to avoid sending drivers because of their nationality, religion or ethnic background, after its staff reported receiving such requests from passengers.
In a social media post, the Carlisle operator said the incidents were “real situations our teams have experienced” and called for them to be addressed.
“Racism is not a passenger preference,” the company said, adding that it values drivers for their work, professionalism and service rather than their nationality, religion or skin colour.
The company said drivers should be able to carry out their jobs without discrimination, describing them as people supporting their families and helping keep Carlisle moving.
Radio Carlisle Taxis said passengers could raise genuine concerns about a driver’s behaviour, driving or professionalism, and that the company would take those complaints seriously
“But refusing someone purely because of their background is not a reasonable service request,” the post said. “It’s discrimination, and we will not accommodate it.”
The operator also addressed the treatment of booking staff, saying they deserved to be treated respectfully and should not face racial or religious abuse while carrying out their work.
It said it was proud of its diverse team and committed to ensuring staff felt supported, respected and valued. The company thanked passengers who treated drivers and staff with kindness, saying: “Your respect makes a difference.”
