RANK JUSTICE: Birmingham Council dishes out 419 illegal taxi rank parking tickets in December

Perry Richardson

Birmingham City Council have issued a whopping 419 illegal parking tickets to motorists parked up on taxi ranks in December alone.

The latest haul brings the total number of tickets handed out to a mammoth 2,755 since April 2022.

There are two levels of contravention that can lead to a motorist receiving a parking related Penalty Charge Notice (PCN). They are:

  • low level contraventions (e.g. parked with an expired pay and display ticket) which leads to a £50 fine (reduced to £25 if paid within 14 days)

  • higher level contraventions (e.g. parked on double yellow lines or on a taxi rank) leading to a £70 fine (reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days).

A BCC Licensing spokesperson said via social media: “419 PCN's issued for illegal parking on Taxi ranks in December 2022, bringing the total since April up to a whopping 2,755.”
