Sussex University have confirmed that they have been made aware of some students being approached in Brighton in the evening, by members of the public who may be posing as University of Sussex employed taxi drivers.

It is reported that drivers of a van were implying they were part of the University’s Streetwise scheme.

The students that were approached did not feel the driver was legitimate and reported the incident to the University. A spokesperson for the University's Student Union, said: "Please do not engage with anyone pretending to be offering a service of this kind.

"The University has reported the incident to the Police, who will be taking this further.

"The University does run a Streetwise scheme, but this does not involve taxis. 2The Students’ Union does operate the Good Night Sussex scheme, however this involves licensed taxis that the student requests by ordering them."
