Ride-hailing app Taasai plans to onboard 40,000 London private hire drivers by end of year

Ride-booking app Taasai is planning to hire more than 40,000 drivers in London by the end of the year to help give private hire drivers a fairer wage, says the firm.

Taasai has this month resumed their partner-driver onboarding session in London as lockdown restrictions begin to ease across the UK and more people are looking to travel.

The firm believes the bulk earnings from a fare should go to the vehicle owner owing to rising cost of maintaining and fuelling private hire vehicles.

Taasai plans to plant 1 million trees within the next 12 months as Londoners go about their daily business while using the app. For every 10th ride that a user takes with the operator, Taasai have promised to plant a tree, which in effect makes each trip carbon neutral.

The Government statistics claim the average person in England made 11 taxi or PHV trips and travelled 59 miles by taxi or PHV in 2019 before the pandemic in 2020.

This summer, Taasai will be extending an invitation to all partner drivers and users to participate in their first annual outdoor tree planting event in the UK and first of its kind in the world.

A spokesperson for the company said: “Making our infrastructure entirely carbon neutral by using carbon offsetting scheme is a significant milestone and a testament to the determination of our Business to help spearhead a new era of sustainable travelling.“
