Robbery and assault in back of Plymouth taxi sparked by passenger row investigated by police

Perry Richardson

Police are investigating a report of robbery and assault in the back of a Plymouth taxi after two sets of passengers travelling together clash over payment of the fare.

The incident happened near Eggbuckland Road, in the Efford area of the city, between 4am and 4.30am on Sunday 19 September.

The two sets of passengers, who were not known to each other, were travelling in a black-coloured taxi when they became involved in a dispute with each other over payment.

It was reported that a man aged in his 50s was grabbed and had his iPhone taken off him.

When the victim and his friends subsequently exited the vehicle, a woman in the party, aged in her 20s, was pushed to the ground.

The male suspect then got back into the taxi and left the area.

Dorset and Cornwall Police are appealing for the driver of the taxi to come forward as it is believed they would have witnessed the incidents.
