A rogue private hire vehicle driver was reported for illegally plying-for-hire outside York train station.

A City of Wolverhampton Council Public Protection spokesperson praised the joint efforts with City of York Council and British Transport Police who were cracking down on illegal activity at the train station.

The driver is set to face consequences after being reported for multiple offenses, including illegally plying for hire, driving without insurance, and operating without a licence.

Private hire vehicles, unlike taxis, are not permitted to pick up passengers without a pre-booking through a licensed operator. This rule is in place for several reasons, all of which are aimed at safeguarding both drivers and passengers.

A City of Wolverhampton Council Public Protection spokesperson said: “Great work by compliance and licensing colleagues at City of York Council and British Transport Police.
