‘Safe Taxi’ initiative aims to boost passenger confidence across Denmark

Danish taxi passengers now have a clear way to prioritise safety when booking a ride. Over 2,600 taxis from Denmark’s largest cities, including Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Odense, have signed up to a new Code of Conduct, with vehicles displaying a “Safe Taxi” sticker on their side windows.

This initiative, supported by major taxi operators like Dantaxi, introduces a set of 10 principles aimed at improving safety and trust in the industry.

These principles include robust background checks, stringent reporting standards, and zero tolerance for harassment. The initiative builds upon Denmark’s existing taxi regulations, which already mandate GPS and camera monitoring in vehicles.

Passengers booking through affiliated apps or phone lines are automatically matched with a participating taxi. The Safe Taxi sticker ensures passengers can easily recognise vehicles committed to the new standards.

Abdinasir Jama, one of the drivers displaying the Safe Taxi sticker, said: “I see strong support for the new Code of Conduct among my colleagues. As taxi drivers, we bear a significant responsibility to ensure the safe transportation of young people and others. I am confident that taxi customers will welcome Safe Taxi as an important initiative, especially in nightlife.”
