Six licensed vehicles have been suspended after safety concerns were identified during a targeted enforcement operation led by Walsall Council Licensing Services.
The operation took place in Brownhills on Friday 28 March and involved partnership working with West Midlands Police, Community Protection Officers and specialist vehicle testers.
A total of 12 licensed vehicles were stopped and inspected. Half were suspended from use due to safety concerns, with three also issued prohibition notices preventing them from being driven until faults are rectified.
Inspectors identified multiple issues linked to tyre safety, including damage, excessive wear and exposed thread. Such defects are considered high risk due to their impact on vehicle control and stopping distances.

Vehicles issued with suspensions are immediately removed from licensed service until repairs are completed and formally approved. Prohibition notices impose additional legal restrictions, meaning vehicles cannot be driven until deemed roadworthy.
Walsall Council said joint enforcement activity is aimed at ensuring passenger safety, supporting compliant drivers and maintaining public confidence in licensed taxi services. Further targeted operations are expected to take place in the coming months.
A spokesperson for Walsall Council said: “We will continue to work closely with the trade to reinforce expectations and responsibilities, and further operations are planned to ensure standards are consistently met.”
