The special firearms unit of the Metropolitan Police swooped on Erith, South London, on Saturday after reports of a taxi driver being threatened with a firearm and a knife.
A number of suspects were detained following a foot chase, where a large knife was recovered.
MPS Firearms Command took to Twitter to highlight the worrying incident, saying: "#SCO19 deployed to the #Erith area yesterday after a taxi driver was threatened with a firearm and knife.
"Our unarmed @MPSBexley colleagues located the group and guided #SCO19 officers in. Several suspects were detained after a foot chase and this knife was recovered. #Teamwork."
The force are yet to report on the firearm being recovered.
This is the second time this week a taxi driver has faced such a scary altercation with someone carrying a blade.
A taxi driver in Wigan got into an argument with two men who were later found to be carrying large knives.
One of the knives recovered had a wooden handle and a blade of eight inches.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that both men were arrested and detained for questioning.
