Stoke-on-Trent licensed taxi driver issued £500 penalty for littering from vehicle

A Stoke-on-Trent taxi driver has received a fixed penalty notice after litter was thrown from a vehicle, the city council said.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council said the driver had been issued a £500 fixed penalty notice. It publicised the case in a social media post warning motorists that throwing litter from a vehicle can result in a penalty.

The council did not say what was thrown or when the incident happened. It also did not say whether the penalty had been paid or challenged.

The post included a photograph of a red licensed vehicle with a Stoke-on-Trent plate shown separately across the image. The council described the person penalised as a taxi driver.

For licensed drivers, the case is a reminder that conduct during a shift can attract enforcement action beyond taxi licensing. The council made no announcement about any action against the driver’s licence.

“Keep it in the car. Bin it when you stop,” the council said in its message to motorists.
