Stolen car collides into Bournemouth taxi injuring cabbie

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

Officers are appealing for information as they investigate a reported vehicle theft and road traffic collision in Bournemouth.

At around 3.30am on Saturday 1 April, a collision occurred in St Peter’s Road in Bournemouth involving a silver Hyundai Penton and a taxi – a silver Skoda Octavia.

The driver of the taxi, a man aged in his 40s, required hospital treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening.

It was reported that the occupants of the Hyundai left the scene.

Further enquiries revealed that the Hyundai had reportedly been stolen from an address in Grantham Road in Boscombe, having last been seen at around 7am on Friday 31 March.

Following further investigative work, an 18-year-old Bournemouth man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and driving offences. He has been released on police bail as further enquiries are conducted.

Investigations Officer Steve White, of Bournemouth police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this matter and I would urge anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please contact us.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or the manner of driving of the Hyundai prior to it, as well as anybody who may have relevant dashcam footage.

“I would also like to speak to anyone with information regarding the reported theft of the vehicle.”
