A taxi driver licensed by Stratford-on-Avon District Council has been suspended for 12 weeks after failing to notify the authority of three driving convictions.
The 65-year-old driver from Stratford-upon-Avon appeared before the Council’s Licensing Panel on 23 July 2025. The panel heard that the convictions, totalling nine penalty points, were only disclosed when he applied to renew his Dual Driver’s licence. The offences took place between April 2023 and March 2025.
Under the Council’s Policy and Conditions for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Drivers, licensed drivers must inform the authority in writing within seven days of any conviction, caution or penalty points being recorded.
As part of the suspension, the driver must now provide a DVLA share code to the licensing department every three months for the next 18 months. This will allow regular checks for any further penalty points on his licence.
The decision can be appealed to the Magistrates’ Court within 21 days of the notice being served, but the driver has chosen not to appeal. The suspension is now in effect.
Cllr Lorraine Grocott, Portfolio Holder for Environmental and Neighbourhood Services, said: "Public safety is our highest priority when determining whether a driver is fit and proper to hold a licence. All licensed drivers and their vehicles are expected to meet the high standards set by the District Council. In this case, the driver's conduct did not meet those standards."
