A taxi licensing operation in Headingley led to several enforcement actions after officers inspected more than 40 vehicles.
The joint exercise, carried out on Saturday 26 July, involved West Yorkshire Police PCSOs Joseph and Ahmed working alongside taxi licensing officers. In total, 43 vehicles were checked to ensure compliance with both vehicle safety regulations and licensing conditions.
Two vehicles were issued with immediate suspensions for major defects. One of these cases will lead to a prosecution relating to a defective tyre. Officers also issued two advisory notices for minor defects, advising drivers to address the issues before they escalated.
In addition, three warnings were given for breaches of licensing conditions. These included drivers failing to wear or display their taxi badge while on duty, a requirement for all licensed drivers.
West Yorkshire Police said the operation was part of an ongoing programme of checks aimed at maintaining public safety and ensuring that all licensed taxis operating in the area remain roadworthy and compliant.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Summary of Activity. A total of 43 vehicles were inspected during the operation. Two Immediate Suspensions issued for major vehicle defects (including a prosecution for a defective tyre).
“Two Advisory Notices issued for minor vehicle defects. Three Warnings issued for breaches of licensing conditions (e.g., failure to wear or display a taxi badge).
“This operation forms part of our ongoing commitment to public safety and ensuring taxi services remain compliant with licensing and vehicle safety standards.”
