Police in South Ribble have carried out taxi inspections alongside licensing officers as part of National Licensing Week 2025.
South Ribble Police joined forces with South Ribble Borough Council Licensing over the weekend to inspect ten licensed taxis. One defect notice was issued, and another driver was advised about tyre tread approaching the legal limit.
The checks were part of wider efforts during the week to raise awareness of licensing responsibilities and to highlight partnership work between police and local authorities.
A police spokesperson said that licensing laws cover many aspects of everyday life, and taxis represent just one area of joint enforcement work. The inspections form part of a broader strategy to ensure public safety through compliance and standards in the taxi industry.
Police confirmed that the stop checks were proactive and formed part of an ongoing approach to working with licensing teams. The week-long focus on licensing will continue with updates on other collaborative efforts across the borough.
A South Ribble Police spokesperson said: “This week is National Licensing Week 2025 we'll be posting some of the work that not only our Police Licensing do but some of the work we do with our partners.
“Over the weekend, we participated in some proactive stop & inspections of licensed taxis with South Ribble Borough Council Licensing, 10 vehicles were inspected - one defect notice was issued and a driver was also given advice for tyre tread nearing the legal limit.
“The various Licensing laws cover a considerable part of daily life; taxis are just one small part of the work we do with our partners.
“Through these positive partnerships we work to keep you safe.”
