The Taxi Centre has generated a further £2,600 for Beatson Cancer Charity after offering Glasgow Hackney drivers meter updates in return for a donation, bringing its total raised this year to £4,300. The contribution follows a recent fare adjustment in the city, which required drivers to update their taximeters.
The company partnered again with Digitax to deliver the upgrades, repeating an initiative first carried out in February. The approach has provided a steady financial boost to the charity while giving drivers a route to update their vehicles to the latest tariff changes.
The Taxi Centre said the initiative reflects ongoing support for the wider sector beyond its LEVC customer base. Digitax, which supplies and maintains taximeters for Hackney taxis, delivered the technical work required to implement the latest fare revisions.
Alongside the fundraising, The Taxi Centre is experiencing rising demand from Glasgow and Edinburgh drivers seeking new LEVC vehicles. Interest has accelerated as the Scottish Government’s Energy Saving Trust 0% loan scheme moves towards its conclusion. Although no confirmed end date has been issued, the expectation that the loan programme is nearing its final phase has prompted many drivers to place orders.
Latest fundraising round comes as Hackney drivers move quickly to upgrade vehicles ahead of the Energy Saving Trust loan scheme’s closure
Suppliers report that the pressure on remaining build slots is increasing as operators attempt to secure finance support before it closes. The EST loan has been a key mechanism enabling Scottish drivers to shift into newer, lower-emission fleets, particularly the LEVC TX.
James Welsh, LEVC Sales Manager at The Taxi Centre, said: "Every time the tariffs change, it’s a big job for drivers. We wanted to make sure the process was as smooth as possible and, at the same time, continue supporting a cause that means a lot to the community.
“Raising another £2,600 shows what can be achieved when the trade pulls together, and we are hugely grateful to Glasgow’s taxi drivers for their help."
Heilidh Wilson, Corporate Fundraiser at Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support from The Taxi Centre and the city’s drivers.
“These donations help us provide vital care and services for patients and families affected by cancer across the west of Scotland.”
Paul Armstrong from Digitax said: “It’s great to see the industry working collaboratively, not just to keep drivers compliant but to make a real difference for charity.”
