Taxi driver charged with raping a woman at her flat after work Christmas night out in Brighton
A taxi driver has been charged with raping a woman at her home in Worthing after a work night out in Brighton.
Ajmal Hazraty, 37, a taxi driver, Newhaven, is due to appear in custody at Brighton Magistrates Court on Saturday 4 January charged with two offences of raping the 31-year-old woman at her flat in Worthing in the early hours of Saturday 21 December.
Police sources said the the 31-year-old victim had been at a work Christmas party in Brighton on the Friday evening before Christmas, and due to her level of intoxication, her friends arranged for a taxi to take her home.
The victim was then taken home to Worthing, where it is alleged the driver followed her into her flat and raped her.
It is understood the driver was in a car with green and white door panels. The car picked her up in Western Road, close to the junction with Queens Square, around 1.30am on Saturday 21 December.
The charge, authorised by the CPS, follows an investigation by detectives from the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit.
