A taxi driver in Avon and Somerset helped deliver a baby mid-journey after a passenger unexpectedly went into labour en route to Southmead Hospital.
The story was shared by PC Patrick Quinton, known as the region’s Taxi Cop, who praised the driver’s quick thinking and composure during the incident.
According to PC Quinton, the driver had picked up the passenger for a routine journey to hospital. However, events took a turn when the woman began giving birth inside the cab before reaching the hospital.
The driver assisted with the delivery until medical staff arrived at the scene. Both mother and baby are reported to be doing well following the surprise arrival.
PC Quinton said: “I have a nice case to share with you today. One of our drivers has contacted me to say that they did a pick up earlier to go to Southmead Hospital, and en route the passenger started to give birth.
“The driver helped deliver the baby and shortly afterwards medical assistance arrived. Mother and Baby are doing well. Drivers do a lot of training in our area, but delivering babies isn't part of that - so a big thumbs up and well done to that driver for doing a super job.”
