Taxi driver licence REVOKED after dumping couple on the hard shoulder of the M6
Updated: May 9, 2021
A taxi driver has lost his licence after he ejected two people from his cab on the hard shoulder of the busy M6 motorway.
Police officers commenting on the incident said there was ‘no excuse’ for dumping the innocent couple on the hard shoulder.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday 24 April. Police received reports of pedestrians on the M6 motorway, near to junction 27 on the southbound carriageway.
When patrols attended the couple, officers heard they had been ejected from a taxi and dumped on the hard shoulder.
The couple had money to pay the fare and no reason was found as to why they were ejected. Officers took the couple off the network and dropped them safely home.
A NW Motorways Police spokesperson said: “We contacted the local Taxi Licensing Officers and they investigated the matter. The Taxi Licensing Department decided to revoke his licence with immediate effect, in the interests of public safety.
“There was no excuse for abandoning/dumping the occupants at the side of the motorway.”
