Taxi driver photographs Nottingham knife-carrying drug dealer before six-year jail sentence
A drug dealer who carried a knife during a taxi journey in Nottinghamshire before being caught brandishing another blade six days later has been jailed for six years and one month.
Tekla Adofo booked a taxi under a false name to travel from Radford in Nottingham to the Gedling area at around 2.30pm on 28 January 2026.
While the vehicle was travelling along Gedling Road in Carlton, the taxi driver became aware that Adofo was carrying a blade. Both men got out of the vehicle and the driver managed to take a photograph of the passenger before he fled.
Adofo was arrested six days later following a road rage incident in Forest Road West. A Police Community Support Officer on patrol saw him brandishing a knife and threatening a motorist.
The 36-year-old attempted to escape but was detained by police officers. Searches uncovered the knife along with heroin, crack cocaine and cannabis in his pockets.
Adofo denied possessing a knife in a public place in connection with the Carlton taxi incident. He was convicted of the offence following a trial.
He admitted possession of a knife in public, two counts of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and two counts of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug in relation to the Forest Road West incident.
At Nottingham Crown Court on Friday 11 September, Adofo was sentenced to a total of six years and one month in prison.
Detective Constable Andre Foster, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Adofo has proven himself to be a persistent knife carrier.
“The decision to go out into the street carrying a knife puts both you and the other people you come into contact with at greater risk of harm.
“As Adofo has discovered, it’s a decision which also means you are very likely to end up in court and jail.
“CCTV is extensive in Nottingham and the county is very well policed, with a combination of high-visibility patrols and the work of our knife crime team meaning people carrying weapons will be spotted and arrested.”
