A licensed taxi driver has been reported for a speeding offence after police carried out roadside checks while waiting for a damaged vehicle to be recovered following a collision in Northamptonshire.
Officers from Northamptonshire Police were positioned on Irthlingborough Road in Finedon when they used the opportunity to conduct speed enforcement in the area. The checks took place as traffic was already being managed due to the earlier incident.
According to the force’s Roads Policing Team, the first vehicle recorded during the operation was a taxi travelling at 41mph in a 30mph zone. Officers stopped the vehicle at the roadside shortly afterwards.
Police confirmed the driver has been reported for the offence. No further details were released regarding whether the driver was carrying passengers at the time or which licensing authority issued the taxi licence.
Speeding offences can carry wider implications for taxi drivers than for private motorists. Depending on local licensing policies, convictions or penalty points may trigger additional scrutiny from licensing authorities and, in some cases, lead to suspension or revocation of a licence.
A Northants Roads Policing spokesperson said: “Whilst waiting for a vehicle to be recovered following a collision on Irthlingborough Road at Finedon, we conducted some speed checks.
“First car checked was a taxi, travelling 41mph in a 30mph zone. Vehicle stopped. Driver reported.”
