A licensed taxi driver was issued a ticket after running a red light in Coalville while carrying a fare, North West Leicestershire Police have confirmed.
The incident was picked up during proactive patrols carried out by Coalville’s neighbourhood and safer streets teams as part of wider road safety work across the district.
Officers said the taxi was pulled over shortly after the offence. A fixed penalty was issued at the roadside.
The stop formed part of a series of targeted checks aimed at dealing with unsafe driving, licensing concerns and behaviour that increases risk to other road users. Police have continued to place emphasis on visible patrols in and around Coalville as they look to reduce the volume of routine traffic offences.
As part of the same patrol activity, officers seized an e-scooter under Operation Pedalfast. The local initiative focuses on unlawful powered scooter use on public roads.
North West Leicestershire Police said: ”Officers from Coalville's NPT and safer streets team are out and about completing proactive patrols around the North West Leicestershire area.
“During our patrols so far we have seized an E-scooter as part of OP Pedalfast and given a ticket to a taxi driver who ran a red light with a fare on board!
“We will continue to patrol throughout the day.”
