A number of taxi drivers have been handed immediate suspensions following a joint enforcement operation by Thames Valley Police and Buckinghamshire Council in Aylesbury.
PC Holly Andrews of Thames Valley Police worked with council licensing officers during night-time patrols in the town centre. The checks were aimed at ensuring taxi drivers were operating legally and safely.
The operation led to several taxi drivers having their licences suspended on the spot. The reasons for the suspensions were not disclosed but are understood to relate to licensing or vehicle compliance failures.
In addition to the taxi enforcement action, two other drivers were arrested during the same patrol. Both were detained on suspicion of impaired driving and possession of a controlled drug.
Police and council licensing teams often carry out joint patrols in areas with active night-time economies to monitor taxi standards, vehicle safety and driver conduct.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “While Team 5 have been conducting night-time economy patrols in Aylesbury Town Centre, PC 413 Holly Andrews has been working alongside Licensing Officers from Buckinghamshire Council to carry out compliance checks on taxis.
“As a result of these checks, several immediate suspensions were issued to taxi drivers, and two further road users were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving offences and possession of a controlled drug.”
