Merseyside-based The Acorn Group has recruited six graduates into its technology division as part of an expansion of its in-house digital and engineering capability.
The intake follows a competitive selection process for the firm’s graduate scheme, with 24 candidates attending a January assessment day. The insurer said the successful applicants demonstrated technical aptitude alongside strong communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
The 18-month programme is designed to lead directly to permanent, full-time roles within the business. On completion, graduates will move into specialist positions across Application Support, DevOps and Platform Engineering, and Process Automation and AI functions.
Acorn is one of the UK’s largest providers of non-standard insurance products, including cover for car, van, taxi and household customers. The firm’s investment in technology reflects broader market pressure on insurers to modernise legacy systems, improve underwriting accuracy and streamline claims and policy administration processes.

Ian Truman, Chief Technology Officer at The Acorn Group, said: "We are thrilled to welcome this talented cohort to our team. Acorn is at the heart of accelerating growth and attracting talent to the North-West’s technology sector. Our rapidly growing in-house technology team, organisational culture that empowers talent and innovation, and deep roots in Liverpool’s thriving digital community means that every new team member has the opportunity to make a genuine impact on our business and the wider community.
“People might not automatically think insurance or the North-West when considering technology careers, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Our graduate scheme is designed to enable individuals to develop core technical skills and gain real-world experience, supporting their journey to becoming well-rounded experts in their fields and contributing to Acorn’s long-term growth. These graduates will play a vital role in enacting our initiatives as Acorn continues to drive transformational change in both the insurance sector and the North-West technology sector.”
