Taxi manufacturer LEVC drives EV accessibility forward at Edinburgh Castle with TX Access
The London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has announced that its TX Access taxi will be available to provide comfortable transport to and from the historic site.
Edinburgh Castle, perched atop the iconic Castle Rock, is introducing a significant step to enhance access for all visitors, particularly those with limited mobility.
The steep incline and cobbled pathways leading up to Edinburgh Castle have long posed a challenge for those with mobility issues. LEVC’s TX Access is designed to address these difficulties, offering an inclusive option for navigating the castle’s elevated location.
The TX Access is fully wheelchair accessible, equipped with a ramp that seamlessly folds into the floor, allowing quick and efficient use. Its spacious interior is designed with easy wheelchair manoeuvrability in mind, and a dedicated restraint system ensures that wheelchairs remain secure during the journey.
The vehicle also boasts a large door aperture for straightforward entry and exit, alongside other thoughtful features such as anti-slip floors, a swivel seat, and hearing induction loops. Braille-embossed controls and a microphone system are also provided to cater to a wider range of accessibility needs.
Passengers can take in the views through large windows and a panoramic roof, ensuring that the journey to the castle is both comfortable and scenic.
Alex Nan, CEO of LEVC, said: "We are thrilled to support Edinburgh Castle by providing a vehicle that is accessible to all. The TX Access is more than a black cab, the fully electric and wheelchair-accessible vehicle is designed to meet the highest standards of comfort and inclusivity."
Stephen Porter, Branch Manager at LEVC dealership The Taxi Centre, said: "This recent addition to Edinburgh Castle's transportation fleet aligns with a broader trend towards eco-friendly solutions within the tourism and service industries, and we are delighted the Edinburgh Castle team is happy with their LEVC TX Access.”
