Taxi-Now Group partners with Gett to open new central London ‘Taxi Academy’

Updated: Oct 1, 2023

London's taxi industry is set to receive a much-needed boost as Taxi-Now Group and Gett join forces to open a new Knowledge School in the heart of the city.

The collaboration aims to address the declining number of applicants studying the Knowledge of London, which has been a cause for concern within the industry.

With approximately 1,000 applicants currently enrolling to become taxi drivers, there has been a significant decrease in numbers compared to previous years. The Taxi-Now Group website highlights that in order to maintain a sustainable level of new taxi drivers, there should ideally be around 4,000 to 5,000 students in the program.

Expressing their concerns, a spokesperson from the Taxi-Now Group emphasised the potential impact of this decline on the trade. They stated on their website: "If we do not have new students in our trade, we will 'wither on the vine.' But how will that affect us? More work, fewer cabs in the short term – yes. However, as more drivers leave the trade due to the costs associated with running a cab, our numbers are critically low with no signs of improvement in the near future."

To address this issue, the Taxi-Now Academy will officially open its doors on 27 October 2023 at 5pm. The academy will be located at Gett's driver services offices in Angel Gate, City Road.

This strategic partnership aims to provide aspiring taxi drivers with comprehensive training and support to navigate the intricate roads and landmarks of London, as required by the Knowledge of London assessments.
