Taxi on fire smothers motorway in smoke causing delays on M11 in Essex

The M11 was blocked for a short period of time yesterday after a taxi burst into flames on the hard shoulder smothering the motorway in smoke.


The M11 Southbound was blocked causing delays following a taxi fire on the stretch of road between Junctions 5 and 6 before the the M25 turnoff.

Essex Police and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) attended the incident and put out the fire.

Highways England East reported the fire on social media saying: "#M11 southbound between J6 (#M25) and J5. Traffic has been stopped whilst @ECFRS extinguish a taxi on fire on the hard shoulder. 20 min delay. Hopefully, a lane will be re-opened past scene shortly."
