Taxi passenger dies in Isle of Wight crash which also leaves driver with serious injuries

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police were called to Downs Road in Brading at 11.20am on Saturday 8 June, following reports of a serious collision. The incident involved a Hyundai taxi and a Land Rover towing a trailer.


Tragically, a 77-year-old woman from Newport, who was a passenger in the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old man from Newport, sustained serious injuries and is currently in hospital receiving treatment.


Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the collision. Anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam footage of the vehicles involved is urged to come forward.
