Liverpool City Council licensing officers issued 55 penalty charge notices (PCNs) and moved on a further 65 vehicles during a joint enforcement operation targeting the misuse of taxi ranks across the city centre.
The operation, carried out by Licensing Enforcement Officers alongside colleagues from Parking Services, focused on vehicles illegally using designated taxi ranks. The council said the initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to ensure ranks remain available for licensed taxi drivers and their passengers.

In a statement shared, Liverpool City Council Licensing said: “Yesterday evening, Licensing Enforcement Officers and colleagues from Parking Services carried out a joint operation targeting vehicles illegally using taxi ranks across the city centre. 55 PCNs issued 65 vehicles moved on.”
The authority added: “Keeping ranks clear and accessible remains a priority.”
Taxi ranks are reserved to allow licensed hackney carriage drivers to pick up passengers safely and efficiently. Vehicles stopping or parking on ranks without authorisation can reduce accessibility for both drivers and the travelling public, particularly during busy evening periods.
The latest enforcement action highlights the continued focus by Liverpool licensing authorities to protect taxi infrastructure.
