Taxi safety blitz finds dangerous vehicles as two licences suspended in Cheshire Police operation

Two taxi licences have been suspended following a joint taxi licensing enforcement operation carried out in Chester over the weekend.
Cheshire Police worked alongside Cheshire West and Chester Council to inspect licensed taxis operating in the city. During the operation, officers stopped a total of 12 taxis to check vehicle condition, licensing compliance and roadworthiness.
The inspections resulted in two taxi licences being suspended after officers found the vehicles to be in what police described as a “dangerous condition”. A Traffic Offence Report was also issued during the enforcement exercise.
In addition to the suspensions, several taxi drivers received warnings about the tread depth of their tyres. While these vehicles were not immediately suspended, the warnings highlight the continued focus on tyre safety, particularly during the summer months when higher temperatures can increase the risks associated with worn or poorly maintained tyres.
The latest operation forms part of ongoing joint enforcement activity between police and local licensing authorities aimed at ensuring licensed taxis meet the required safety and licensing standards. Such checks typically examine vehicle roadworthiness, documentation, driver licensing and compliance with local licensing conditions.
A spokesperson for Chester Police said: “Two taxi licences were suspended following a taxi licensing operation in Chester at the weekend.
“Working alongside Cheshire West and Chester Council, 12 taxis were stopped. Two taxi licences were suspended after vehicles were found to be in a dangerous condition and one Traffic Offence Report was issued.
“Many taxi drivers were also warned about their tyre tread depth.
“We’re working hard to ensure residents and visitors are safe and taxis operating in the area are correctly licensed.”
