TAXIS AND PHVS INCLUDED: Alps extends pothole insurance cover to fleet and hire and reward vehicles
Alps has extended its Pothole Add-On policy to include fleet and hire and reward vehicles, widening cover that first launched in April 2026.
The company said the extensions were introduced in response to broker demand. Alps cited data showing pothole damage claims in the first half of 2026 were 25% higher than in the same period last year, while average payouts rose by 41%.
For fleets and commercial vehicle operators, the add-on is intended to cover damage costs that may exceed the amounts allowed for when setting vehicle sums insured. Alps said premiums for its fleet product range from £15.66 per vehicle for a 300-vehicle fleet to £15.88 per vehicle for a five-vehicle fleet.
The hire and reward extension covers privately owned vehicles used for commercial purposes. Eligible uses include taxis, minicabs, limousines and some courier work. Premiums start at £60, with a £50 excess, according to Alps.
Cover includes up to £200 per tyre, £250 per wheel and £150 for wheel alignment. The policy also provides up to £500 for suspension damage and £250 for damage to bodywork, paint and headlights.
The fleet and hire and reward policies are delivered in partnership with MB&G Insurance Services Ltd and Strategic Insurance Services Ltd, and are underwritten by Collinson.
